Just talked to hayden. The last minute (well, as usual) notice for all phobos OGLS to return back to finish up the identities and to practise the house cheers. And so I decided since I have to go out again (grumbles) why not attend TJC’s geog lecture tomorrow? It’s always better to broaden your visions and take a peek at what other institutions are doing and gearing up for.. A levels?

Funny things happened today, and I mean funny things. so after the identities thing at the gallery (which wasn’t so productive) and the identities made us look like we were from a cult, ready to attack the public with rioting material like setting fires, burning photos and smashing alcohol bottles at other people. Left early to meet Samantha and Cheryl. Happened to see a lot of familiar faces at tampines mall (we’re always going there because I live near there). Yingcong, whom I haven’t seen for months was there. There was a serious problem with his hair but I shall not mention on it because it’s something unkind. Saw my dearest choir juniors ah boy zheng jun and jian yong.
Happy birthday jian yong!! =]
Then we met yingcong and weicong (cong brothers), peizhen shu huan and qihao. We stood at the glass pane where we could see bakers kneading dough and all that. The one at four leaves looked like she was folding blankets with the pastry, with the ham hidden within.
The best encounter was that we met 3 little boys from Poi Ching Primary. They were really cute, and had the ignorance of little kids (well I mean some kids are little evil devils who are so spoilt, but that’s beside the point) Followed the 3 kids around tampines mall for a while till we managed to get their photo. It’s not that we were psycho and we wanted to be stalkers, they were just irresistible!

Was watching the arena yesterday. Both teams put up a great fight, just that Loyang was kind of aggressive when they attempted to emulate Hwa Chong’s rebuttals. At times they went off tangent, rebutted for the sake of rebuttals. On the other hand HC encapsulated their agenda pretty well.

But what’s with the motion given man. They have a problem. It’s always one sided and one team is always given the clear advantage to do well. They will be more inclined to present their points better, because they have the generally “right” opinion that makes perfect sense. The correct motions are inexorable, making in difficult for the other team to make rational rebuttals.
For example, yesterday’s motion was something like “bloggers are becoming more influential than journalists these days”. Like DUH, of course not. Influence is such a powerful word, and why bloggers? Do what we type here in our little new post even make a significant difference to the lives of people? That’s not even influence. But Loyang did come up with some really good arguments that are commendable.
I think they should review the motions given. Next week’s motion is “Singapore’s education system breeds elitism”. LIKE DUH??? The education system hinges entirely on a merit-based systen, where academic excellence is emphasized on in everyday school life. Education has evolved into such an important tool to level up in society, as well as a vehicle for social mobility. Everyone wants to do well, so much so that one who is intelligent is more well-respected than others. Intellectual ability becomes imbued with such positive attribute that it nearly becomes associated with a moral virtue. Not that people who get As are more saint-like, but we always like to associate dudes who get As as those who are more hardworking, goal-oriented and all those values u can ever find. This breeds a ‘I am smarter, thus better than you” attitude and tata! You get elitism. Oh well. Musings here, no influential power.
